The IIDA East Bay City Center has chosen Girls Garage as our 2019 Design in Motion recipient. This organization serves to inspire girls to bring their audacious ideas to life and thrive, now and in the future.
MSA along with other Designers from all over the Bay Area created brilliant terrariums that were auctioned off the raise money for Girls Garage.

TOPIC: PINNING
IF YOU ARE REFERENCING OR OVERLAYING AN EXTERNAL DWG, RVT, OR OTHER TYPES OF DRAWINGS FILES, MAKE SURE THEY ARE PINNED DOWN TO ENSURE THAT THESE REFERENCE FILES DO NOT SHIFT AND CAUSE INACCURACIES IN MODELING. YOU CAN PIN OBJECTS BY SELECTING THE PIN OBJECT ICON UNDER THE MODIFY TAB, OR BY TYPING PN WHILE OBJECT IS SELECTED. PINNED OBJECTS CAN ALSO BE SET TO NOT SELECT OR HIGHLIGHT WHEN THE CURSOR HIGHLIGHTS OVER THE PINNED OBJECT. THIS IS HELPFUL WHEN AN EXTREMELY LARGE EXTERNAL REVIT MODEL IS LINKED TO THE WORKING REVIT MODEL LIKE AN EXISTING CONDITIONS MODEL. REVIT TRIES TO VISUALLY HIGHLIGHT ANY ELEMENTS THAT YOUR CURSOR HOVERS OVER AND MAY TAKE UP SOME PROCESSING TIME WHEN HIGHLIGHTING AN EXTREMELY DETAILED ELEMENT. SIMPLY TOGGLE THE “SELECT PINNED ELEMENT” BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF YOUR REVIT MODEL TO DISABLED, AND YOUR PINNED ELEMENT WILL NO LONGER BE SELECTABLE.
TOGGLE IT BACK ON WHEN YOU NEED TO ADJUST THE PINNED ELEMENT.
SELECT THE FINISH TAG TYPE FAMILY UNDER THE ANNOTATE TAB AND GO TO SYMBOL. SELECT A CURRENT TYPE THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN CREATED. GO TO EDIT TYPE AND THEN DUPLICATE. RENAME THE NEW FINISH TO FOLLOW OUR NAMING STANDARDS, XXX (ABBREVIATION OF FINISH) 1 (NUMBER OF THE SERIES OF THE TYPE OF FINISH. (EXAMPLE CP1) WHICH IS CARPET 1. ONCE YOU CREATED A NEW FINISH TYPE YOU CAN THEN INPUT THE NEEDED INFORMATION IN THE CORRECT PARAMETERS.
It’s a highly collaborative process that lets our clients and MSA team members collaborate on the planning, design and construction of a project within one 3D Model.
The most powerful aspect of BIM lies in the information that is stored in the model, where it can improve accuracy and improve design intent from an idea to reality. It contains data that our clients have access to, that allows us to make design decisions derived from the model to make the construction of the building highly efficient by reducing construction waste.
By working in a BIM environment it improves collaboration throughout all disciplines and phases throughout a project where it can reduce change orders, field coordination issues and also provide insight to an existing building for future renovation projects.
